University of Groningen Medicine Requirements

Please note that the following admission requirements apply to the 2023-2024 admission round, which begins in October 2022. These requirements may change for future approval cycles. In this bachelor`s program, you will prepare for a career in medicine. Since the development of a doctor takes a lot of time and attention and we strive to prepare our students optimally, a limited number of study places are available. Therefore, 410 places are available each year for medical studies in Groningen. You can be admitted to this program by participating in a selection process. The program is offered in two languages; Dutch and English. Applicants must ensure that they send a certified copy of their educational certificates and certified true copies of their pre-university files with their application. If the certificates or copies are not in English or Dutch, a certified translation into English must also be submitted. Applicants who are in their final year of study can apply by submitting a Certificate of Enrolment with an estimated completion date and transcripts of subjects passed so far. All applications for admission to the Bachelor programme are examined individually. The admission procedure includes the evaluation of academic certificates, which in most cases are pre-university high school diplomas and the list of grades. A secondary/higher education diploma The pre-university degree fulfils the conditions for admission to the LLB programme in Groningen if: candidates holding a VWO diploma in biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics A or B (Nature and Health profile supplemented by physics or “Nature and Technology” profile supplemented by biology) and candidates taking their VWO final examinations in the required subjects this year, can enter the contest. If you have an equivalent Abitur with the subjects biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics A or B, you can also meet the admission requirements. 2. GPA In addition to providing transcripts and diplomas to the admissions office, students must have an equivalent minimum grade point average (grade point average) of 7/10 (Dutch grading scale). For candidates with a non-EU/EEA qualification, this minimum cumulative average is mandatory. The GPA is the average of all grades in your pre-university studies. After the bachelor`s phase, students from the four learning communities enter the master`s program together, and if all goes well, they leave the university after six years as a doctor (basisarts). Match Procedure (Online Match Course) The Online Match Course is an online course that applicants must complete to register and enroll in the program if they are deemed eligible. All students who have obtained the bachelor`s degree have a guaranteed place in the master`s program in medicine. Bachelor of Medicine and Dentistry programs have a numerus fixus. Due to the numerus fixus procedure, interested students must register with Studielink and the Admissions Liaison by 15 January. The admission procedure is separate from the selection procedure. The characteristics of the Groningen program are: a problem-oriented program that is both patient-centered and student-centered. Students must demonstrate a proactive attitude during their studies. After your master`s degree, you can continue your work in the hospital to become a specialist, such as a pediatrician or surgeon. You can also work outside the hospital and train as a general practitioner or psychiatrist, for example. In addition, you can conduct scientific research and study topics such as birth defects and aids. Other career opportunities include teaching or consulting policy in a hospital or for government. If you do not meet the eligibility criteria at the time of submitting your application to the selection process, please ensure that you are able to meet the eligibility criteria in a timely manner. Please be realistic to compensate for any shortcomings.

In our experience, candidates have a hard time compensating for more than one shortcoming, for example. You should expect around 200-300 hours of study per subject, depending on your previous training in that subject. Vwo certificates, which we accept, can be obtained from CCVX or the Boswell Institute. Applicants from Cameroon must take the British Council English Language Test (IELTS) to avoid problems at a later stage of the process when applying for a visa.
